Events at SAS
St. Ann Catholic School offers a variety of special events throughout the school year.
Father Oglesby Character Awards are given each quarter to students who exhibit Christ like characteristics, such as kindness, thoughtfulness and a caring attitude towards their teachers and fellow students.
Student of the Month is given to a student who is active in the school and demonstrates a behavior that serves as a role model for fellow students. The award is given to a different grade level each month.
Sunshine Award. Students in Kindergarten may receive the Sunshine Award, which is given to students who display friendliness, ability to share, respect and a caring attitude toward one another. Students receive a Sunshine certificate.
Honor Roll. Students in grades 1 & 2 may achieve Citizenship Honor Roll by displaying work and study habits, play habits, and conduct which is a model for others in the room. Students receive a Citizenship Certificate. Students in grades 3-8 may achieve one of two honor rolls. The Principal’s List requires all A’s, and no N’s or U’s in any area. The Faculty List requires all A's and B's, and no N’s or U’s in any area. All Honor Roll students are awarded certificates.
Awards Day takes place at the end of the school year to acknowledge students in grades 1-7 for outstanding achievement in areas including, but not limited to academics, fine arts and other activities. Parents and guests are encouraged to attend.
STREAM Night is held in the fall, and include a student showcase from Pre-K 3 – 8th grade and had hands-on STEM activities from community partners.
New Family Orientation is held in August (prior to the start of school) to introduce new families to the campus, administration and various organizations.
“Meet the Teacher Night” is held each year by the faculty to familiarize parents with the programs and to answer questions. This is held one evening in each classroom/subject area during the first few weeks of school. This is an opportunity to go through your child’s class schedule. Formal Parent-Teacher conferences are held in the fall. Informal conferences are held as needed.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Open House is held twice a year. We encourage all families and friends to tour our school and view student work.
Spelling Bee. Students in grades 4-8 compete in the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee.
Christmas Programs – in December, our students in PreK-3rd grade present a Christmas Program.
Chorus Concert held in the winter and spring each year.
Band Concert held in the winter and spring each year.
Geography Bee. Students in grades 4-8 compete. This is sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
Duke Talent Search – A selected group of 7th graders, based on standardized test scores and teacher recommendations, are invited to take the ACT/SAT tests. This gives students a chance to practice and become familiar with the exams that play a major role in college admissions.
Catholic Schools Week occurs the last week in January and is filled with special activities for the students, teachers and parents. The activities planned celebrate our Catholic heritage and build school spirit. Activities include Open House, All School Mass and Student/Faculty Volleyball game.
May Procession is a procession with eight grade students where they place a crown on Mary’ head.
Eighth Grade Graduation held in May, family and friends are invited to these very special services. Graduation is held at St. Ann Catholic Church. A reception for friends and family is held after graduation.
Field Day is a fun-filled day sponsored by the Physical Education Department for all grades.
D.A.R.E. or Drug Abuse Resistance Education is for students in grade 5 to learn from Police Officials everything that young people deal with, from resisting the daily peer pressure to participate in drug, cigarette and alcohol use to resisting gangs and their attempts to lure them or threaten them.
School Musicals – Our spring school musical involves students in grades 5-8. Some of our previous musicals have been Music Man, Seussical, Mulan and Annie.
